wildcards

A wildcard character is either of the characters ? or *
when used in a filename or an extension.

? stands for "any single character in this position"

* stands for "any sequence of characters" in a
filename or extension.

A wildcard filespec is any file identifier containing
one or more wildcard characters in the filename and/or
extension.

DOS fns 4eH and 4fH (find files) accept wildcards.
